The project "Information and teaching materials for an environmentally conscious use of pharmaceuticals", led by Ecologic Institute, aimed to promote an environmentally responsible use of human pharmaceuticals and to anchor the topic of pharmaceuticals and the environment in pharmaceutical and medical teaching. The overriding goal is to reduce the entry of pharmaceuticals into the environment and their effects on animals and plants. To this end, freely available teaching materials were developed for university teaching, for professional trainings and for vocational schools. In addition, customer information materials on the proper use and disposal of medicines were created and disseminated. Finally, all information and materials were made available on an online information platform at uba.de/ham.
The information platform is intended to provide doctors and pharmacists with specialist environmental information which they can use in direct contact with their patients and customers. Another focus of the project was the creation of teaching materials for pharmaceutical and medical education (vocational schools, universities, training).
The project had a duration of four years (Oct 2021 - Mar 2025) and was funded by the German Federal Environmental Agency. A project consortium consisting of Ecologic Institute, the Institute of Pharmacy of the Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel and the Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology for Natural Scientists at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein was in charge of the implementation.
