The Federal Environment Agency's online platform "Human Pharmaceuticals and the Environment" provides information on the environmental impact of human pharmaceuticals and gives recommendations for environmentally conscious use and disposal. The aim is to minimize the entry of pharmaceutical residues into the environment and thus protect organisms, water, and soil.
The platform is structured into five main sections
The sections of the Internet portal provide information for different target groups.
- Start
This section offers an introduction to the issue of pharmaceutical residues in the environment and summarizes the most important content of the platform. - For patients
Patients are introduced to the topic in a comprehensible way. The entry, occurrence and effects of pharmaceutical residues in the environment are explained and recommendations for the environmentally conscious use and disposal of medicines are given for patients. - For doctors and pharmacists
The articles in the "For doctors and pharmacists" section are tailored to a specialist audience from the fields of medicine and pharmacy, who pass on knowledge to pharmacy customers and patients. This includes practicing and prospective doctors and pharmacists, as well as teachers of medicine and pharmacy. Environmental aspects of prescribing and dispensing human medicinal products are explained and how practicing doctors and pharmacists can contribute to reducing the release of human pharmaceutical residues into the environment. In addition, the teaching materials, information materials and free texts and images developed in the project are offered for download. - Scientific background
