The correct regional disposal routes for leftover medicines are visualized in a map of German districts and independent cities (source: arzneimittelentsorgung.de, as of March 2023). In some cases, several disposal routes are offered within a single district or independent city. This is why the map always shows the simplest disposal route from the patient's point of view (preference for "household waste" over "mobile hazardous waste collection or recycling center"). As the disposal routes can change or other disposal options are sometimes available, reference is also made to the portal arzneimittelentsorgung.de, where the disposal information is regularly updated.

This animated video, designed and produced by Ecologic Institute, illustrates the different disposal methods in Germany and is specifically tailored for display on pharmacy info screens.

This video was produced as part of a project for the Federal Environment Agency. In this project, Ecologic Institute developed teaching and information materials on the environmental aspects of pharmaceuticals together with Kiel University and Kiel University Hospital.
