Dr. Johanna Meier works as a Researcher in the fields of food, agriculture, and water at Ecologic Institute. The focus of her scientific work lies on issues related to the transformation of the food system, particularly the promotion of more sustainable diets, as well as on issues concerning the protection and restoration of ecosystems. She works in English and German.
At Ecologic Institute, Johanna Meier is currently involved in a project on the financing of restoration and nature-based solutions in freshwater ecosystems in the EU Innovation Action MERLIN. Previously, she was involved in the project "Sustainable Management: Socio-Ecological Transformation of the Food System (STErn)".
Prior to joining Ecologic Institute, Johanna Meier worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Chair of International Economics at Ruhr University Bochum, where she also completed her PhD. In her dissertation, she investigated the impact of food environments on food choices, as well as economic determinants of water pollution. In 2021, Johanna Meier supported the work of the Citizens' Climate Council in the field of nutrition. During her studies, she worked as a student research assistant at the Chair of Macroeconomics and the RWI Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in the department of "Environment and Resources".
Johanna Meier holds a PhD in Economics, a master's degree in "Economic Policy Consulting", and a bachelor's degree in "Management and Economics" from Ruhr University Bochum (Germany).
