As part of the "Green Finance – Strategies and Instruments for Financing the Ecological Modernisation Process" project, the Federal Environment Agency organized a workshop to discuss initial research findings on the financing requirements for a green transformation in Germany on 3 March 2016 in Berlin.
The project explores within a consortium of Ecologic Institute, Fraunhofer ISI and Arepo Consult how private capital can be mobilised to finance green investments and what obstacles and deficits exist in the current financial system for a successful green transformation.
The aim of the workshop was to present the results of a study that analysed the financing needs in seven key areas of green transformation:
- Environmentally friendly energies and energy storage
- Increasing energy efficiency
- Sustainable mobility
- Increase in raw material and material efficiency
- recycling economy
- Ecologically sustainable water management
- Ecologically sustainable agriculture
The underlying transformation targets and scenarios, the assumptions made in the respective fields, as well as the level of the determined financing requirements up to the year 2050 were discussed.
