On 21 March 2023, Aaron Scheid presented Ecologic Institute's analysis of the German CAP Strategic Plan at the NABUtalk on the next CAP reform. He joined State Secretary Silvia Bender and CAP experts Dr. Sebastian Lakner, Sönke Beckmann, and Dr. Norbert Röder to discuss the upcoming CAP reform. They further addressed the issue of phasing out flat-rate payments and creating income for farms by rewarding climate, biodiversity and environmental services. A look at the EU's neighboring countries and the United Kingdom and look at new (and innovative?) models completed the discussion. Aaron's presentation slides are available for download.

The reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027 came into force at the beginning of this year. Time is already pressing to think about the shape of the next CAP from post-2027. Therefore, NABU wants to kick-start the discussion with an event on rethinking the next CAP from 2028.

The German coalition agreement promises a proposal on how to transform the CAP post-2027 this year. In view of the fact that policy-makers will have to face immense challenges such as the natural and climate crises and increasing uncertainties in food security worldwide. This event was aimed at identifying ways in which these can be met by a different form of agricultural policy.
