Join us for an exciting virtual expert workshop on 10 December 2024, from 10:00 to 12:30 CET, organized by the Ecologic Institute and AquaEcology. This workshop is part of the German-funded research project MEER:STARK that addresses the urgent need for climate resilience in marine conservation. With a focus on Europe-wide collaboration, this event aims to explore how Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) can be adapted to withstand future climate impacts and support adapting to climatic changes. 

This event will delve into two key questions: 

1. How MPAs can be designed to be resilient to future climate impacts, like warming oceans and acidification (“climate-smart MPAs”).
2. How MPAs can play a role in supporting adaptation to climate-related changes along coasts and marine environments.

Our workshop will provide a platform for discussing European case studies (including a Sea Basin spotlight on the Baltic Sea from a representative of HELCOM) and combining insights from science, policy, and regional practice. Participants will work together to explore research gaps, set priorities, and propose actionable recommendations for policymakers. This workshop will also foster valuable networking opportunities and collaboration for stakeholders working in the field. The event will feature presentations from the MEER:STARK, FutureMARES, the MPA4Change, and the MSP4BIO project, who will share recent project outcomes and insights.
