On behalf of the German Embassy in Cairo and the Federal Foreign Office, Ecologic Institute contributes to the "Climate Finance Workshop" in Cairo. The "Climate Finance Workshop" is a part of the "Cairo Climate Talks" programme initiated in 2011 by the German Embassy in Cairo to build on the strong partnership between Egypt and Germany in the fields of energy and environment.
The workshop concentrated on climate finance per se but focused especially on financial components in the INDCs (Intended Nationally Determined Contributions) and the Paris Agreement.
The speaker presented the connection between INDCs and the Paris Agreement and showed which funding criteria are used to implement INDCs with the support of the GCF (Green Climate Fund). Thereby, he emphasized that no clear pathway was given as to how countries should frame their national contribution. "Since INDCs have formulated each country's financial needs in such different ways, it is very difficult for us to estimate how much money should be allocated."
