The Ecologic Institute and the Atlantic Council, through their Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP), created the Arctic Climate Change Emerging Leaders (ACCEL) Fellowship in the spring of 2014. The Fellowship aims to train the next generation of Arctic Ambassadors and is a unique summer opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates, interested in building careers focused on international security, environmental issues, shipping and trade, energy and natural resources, or public relations and diplomacy. This short study that Ecologic Institute produced for the Greens in the European Parliament, examines the competitiveness of European Eco-Industries. The key finding is that Eco-Industries have been a source of economic growth, particularly at times when other parts of the economy contracted. The short study is available for download.

Ten ELEEP Members traveled to the Pacific Northwest of the United States to find out how communities use planning, policies, investments, and other measures to establish low-carbon, sustainable transportation systems. This tour took a broad perspective, moving beyond a focus on transportation systems in isolation to consider the larger economic development, urban/rural, and social implications of transit and transportation planning.

The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the International Relations Program, University of Pennsylvania, conducts research on the role policy institutes play in governments and in civil societies around the world. On Wednesday, 22 January 2014, the TTCSP released its 2013 Report. On this occasion, more than 25 global partners implemented local launch events.

For four years now, Ecologic Institute has claimed a top spot in the "Environment" category of the highly regarded global rankings of policy institutes, or think tanks, published by the University of Pennsylvania. In 2013, the Berlin-based research organization was ranked in 9th place.
 Researchers at Ecologic Institute have been working on current societally- and politically-relevant environmental questions since 1995. The research performed by Ecologic Institute has been recognized, as it has been for the last three years, with a top ranking in the Global Go To Think Tank Index.

The course Energy and Climate Finance introduces students to environmental markets and the policies that create them, focusing mainly on emissions trading systems (ETS) to mitigate climate change. The course also provides an introduction to attributes of the financial sector through its analysis of markets for environmental commodities. Ecologic Fellow Elizabeth Zelljadt has taught this course in summer 2014.

Ecologic Institute and the Atlantic Council of the United States co-organize the Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP). ELEEP was created under the I-CITE project, which was funded by the European Union's External Action Service. In early 2012, the ELEEP Network was awarded additional support by the Robert Bosch Stiftung, which provided for two study tours and other events in the second half of the year. The ELEEP Network has received additional funding from the European Union under the auspices of the EU's "Transatlantic Civil Society Dialogues EU-USA 2012"; with this grant, Ecologic Institute and the Atlantic Council will conduct “The ELEEP Energy and Climate Dialogue” from January 2013 through mid-2014. In addition to a second round of funding from the European Union, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has also provided a second round of support to ELEEP through mid-2014.

This study by Ecologic Institute examines the current landscape of lighting efforts and initiatives, as well as market growth and development for modern, sustainable off-grid lighting alternatives. The study considers the benefits and costs of upgrades in target regions, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Policy recommendations are given for action from the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) that would enhance existing efforts and achieve more rapid black carbon reductions and climate benefits. Between 11 November and 22 November 2013 the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Warsaw (Poland). Ecologic Institute supported the negotiations via its legal expertise and also presented the results of its research projects during various sessions of the event. In addition, a transatlantic expert group attended the conference and was guided through the negotiations by Ecologic Institute staff.
