1. Transforming Economies through Green Investment – Paper online
In his 2010 State of the Union address, President Obama declared the need for "serious investments in clean energy" because "the nation that leads the clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the global economy". He urged Congress to pass legislation that promotes innovation and generates jobs as Americans rebuild infrastructures and manufacture the products of tomorrow. In a new paper funded by the German Marshall Fund of the United States under the Transatlantic Climate Bridge initiative, authors from the Ecologic Institute in Washington DC and Berlin identify investment needs and policy incentives required to achieve this transition to a clean energy economy.

2. Climate Finance – Which Goals and What Funds? – Climate Talk
In March 2010, Dr. Camilla Bausch and Benjamin Görlach of Ecologic Institute hosted the 14th Climate Talk, together with Dr. Susanne Dröge of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, where questions concerning the governance of international climate finance were discussed.

3. International Agreements on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Public Participation – an Introduction – Presentation
Christiane Gerstetter, Fellow Ecologic Legal, provided an introduction to various international agreements to a Palestinian audience during a workshop in Ramallah on 29-30 March 2010. The workshop was convened by the Environmental Quality Authority of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). Its aim was to raise awareness among Palestinians about international environmental agreements.

4. Technology Transfer in the International Climate Negotiations – The State of Play and Suggestions for the Way Forward – Publication
This article by Christiane Gerstetter, Dominic Marcellino, and Elena von Sperber explores the state of the climate technology transfer negotiations following the COP 15 meeting in Copenhagen in December 2009. The article appears in the Spring 2010 edition of the journal Carbon and Climate Law Review.

5. Update on North American Carbon Trading Initiatives – Panel Discussion

European insights from the integration of emissions trading systems helped inform participants at GLOBE 2010, North America's largest international conference on business and the environment. Michael Mehling of the Ecologic Institute in Washington DC joins a panel sponsored by the German Consulate General in Vancouver.

6. When Their Home is Submerged – Who will Take the Climate Refugees in? – Panel Discussion
As part of this year's theme "Climate Change and Security Policy", the Tönissteiner Kreis held this panel discussion in cooperation with the International Club of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. Stephan Sina from Ecologic Institute along with Steffen Bauer (German Development Institute) and Bernd Mesovic (Pro Asyl) sat on the panel. The discussion was moderated by Dagmar Dehmer (Tagesspiegel).

7. UN has Unrivalled Legitimacy

In her interview with the Tageszeitung TAZ, Dr. Camilla Bausch, head of climate and energy policy, emphasized the particular role of the UN for international climate negotiations. Dr. Bausch also pointed out, that successful negotiation, no matter what the forum in which the negotiations take place, depends in particular on the will of countries to act together and co-operate in facing the challenge of climate change.

8. RADOST Annual Conference in Schwerin
The project RADOST ("Regional Adaptation Strategies for the German Baltic Coast") held its first annual conference in Schwerin on 24 and 25 March 2010. At the conference, which was conducted under the auspices of the Ministry for Economics, Labour and Tourism of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, approximately 100 participants discussed the challenges presented by climate change for the German Baltic coastal regions, the current state and limits of scientific knowledge on the subject as well as possible solutions and practical examples of adaptation measures. The tourism sector was a focal point of the discussion.
