1. European Climate Law – Ecologic Institute assesses the Commission's proposal and suggests amendments – News

   In early March 2020, the European Commission proposed the European Climate Law. If adopted, the proposed European Climate Law would mark important progress. It would set a legally binding EU target of reaching climate neutrality by 2050 – a mile-stone in EU climate policy making. Ecologic Institute published two new papers on the subject: an assessment of the Commission's proposal and suggestions for amendments. The papers are available for download.

2. Innovation for Increased Climate Resilience: Successfully concluding the BRIGAID project – News

   The BRIGAID project created impact by improving the technological and market readiness of 60 solutions to droughts, floods and extreme weather. Ecologic Institute contributed by training 21 innovators on strategic decision-making; developing an online system for remote collaboration; and establishing a Community of Innovation with researchers, practitioners, entrepreneurs and local authorities from Berlin.

3. Climate Change Impacts on Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Coastal Areas – COACCH webinar

   Ecologic Institute's COACCH Project (CO-designing the Assessment of Climate Change Costs) launches a webinar series to share its outputs to the online community. The series includes four episodes. On 30 April 2020, the first webinar "Insights from the COACCH project I: Climate change impacts on agriculture, forestry, fisheries and coastal areas" will outline sectoral assessments. 4. Urban Nature-based Solutions in Germany – experiences, successes and future challenges – Webinar

   The half-day web-based expert workshop "Urban nature-based solutions in Germany – experiences, successes and future challenges" will take place on 5 May 2020 as part of the NATURVATION project. Insights and case studies on innovative nature-based solution financing, cooperation and governance will be presented and discussed with participants. The event will be held in German. Registration is open until 24 April 2020.

5. What is the Role of Society, Politics and Science in Urban Nature Conservation and in the Implementation of Nature-based Solutions? – Presentation

   In our age, scientific knowledge is increasing rapidly – while biodiversity is simultaneously decreasing rapidly. Both practitioners and scientists agree that a sound evidence base and practice-oriented steps by which to implement that knowledge are essential for sustainable nature development in cities. Sandra Naumann's presentation highlighted this interface and focused on the use of nature-based solutions in urban nature conservation. The presentation slides are available for download.

6. Circular Economy and Sustainability Innovations: Stakeholder exchange along the supply chain – Publication

   In order for sustainability innovations to contribute to circular value creation in companies, science and companies must network better. For this to succeed, companies and science need to have opportunities for exchange of information across value chains. In three dedicated specialist workshops on sustainable management, organised by Effizienz-Agentur NRW in cooperation with NaWiKo, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises discussed options for circular and sustainable economy. A brief report was published in the magazine GAIA 1/2020 and is available for download.

7. The Public's Perception of Run-of-the-river Hydropower across Europe – Publication

   In the European Union, hydropower represents an important component of a renewable energy transition, in part due to its existing infrastructure. A large share of future European hydropower projects will be run-of-the-river schemes. To understand the potential for RoR hydropower development and modernization of the technology as an opportunity for sustainable decentralization, this report uses the Q-methodology to compare public values about RoR hydropower in German, Portuguese and Swedish case studies. Mandy Hinzmann and Holger Gerdes from Ecologic Institute contributed essential parts to the article, which is available for download.

8. Ecologic Institute is Looking to Hire – Job Opportunities

   • Project Controller
     As Project Controller you will contribute to the successful implementation of projects by managing a portfolio of projects independently. In close cooperation with the scientific project lead, you will ensure smooth project implementation and make sure that the sponsor, project team, project partners and the institute are provided with the appropriate project-relevant information.
   • Apprenticeship as IT Specialist for Application Development
     For the next training year starting in September 2020, we are looking for a trainee IT specialist for application development. During the apprenticeship in our Web and IT Team you will become a competent professional in software development.
   • Apprenticeship as Event Management Assistant
     For the next training year starting in September 2020, we are looking for a motivated and communicative trainee to become an Event Management Assistant. During your training, you will support our events team in organising and staging scientific and political events, including national and international large-scale conferences, workshops and visiting programmes.
