Ecosystem-based Approaches to Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Event

Location
Vilm Island, Germany

This workshop aims to present climate adaptation strategies used by various sectors (including agriculture and forestry, water, tourism, etc.) with practical examples from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Additionally, the selected success factors will be analyzed and recommendations will be gleaned from them for political action to strengthen the promotion and implementation of ecosystem-based approaches. Registrations are welcome until 5 November 2013.

Climate change is having wide ranging impacts on human society. Technical solutions are just one approach to these problems. Stable and intact ecosystems are particularly essential for climate protection and adaptation. Measures that serve to preserve the sustainable use of nature can also to a considerable extent contribute to climate protection and to the adaptation of human society to climate change, often in a cost-effective manner. These so-called ecosystem-based approaches can simultaneously fulfill the demands of both the Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The programme as well as the online registration form can be accessed on the BfN Event Website. Registrations are welcome until 5 November 2013. Please note that the event will be held in German.
