This online workshop is intended for representatives of city networks, municipal and metropolitan associations, NGOs, researchers, think tanks, energy agencies – all multipliers, movers and shakers supporting local governments in climate and sustainability transitions. It is also open to local government representatives all over Europe.
In the workshop we will explore resources such as a comprehensive guidance on developing ambitious local long-term climate neutrality strategies, present insights from working with small and medium-sized pilot municipalities in Poland, Hungary, Romania and Croatia to support their progress towards reaching climate neutrality and discuss ways forward for local climate action in the EU in the current dynamic political context.
The workshop builds on the work of Ready4NetZero, a project that has supported small and medium-sized municipalities in Central and Eastern Europe in the development and implementation of local strategies to reach climate neutrality. Ready4NetZero is supported by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI) of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate.
The event's agenda includes:
- Framing presentation "Ways forward for local climate action in the EU in 2025 and beyond" by Joanna Kiernicka-Allavena, Lead Orchestrator of the EU Cities Mission – NetZeroCities and Deputy Head of Cities Team at EIT Climate-KIC.
- Hands-on exploration of the Ready4NetZero resources, including deep dive into the guidance "Developing Ambitious Local Long-term Climate Neutrality Strategies"
- Dynamic discussions with representatives of pilot municipalities advancing actions to reach climate neutrality
- Multiple opportunities for interaction and exchange between the participants, speakers and facilitators
