To support our Team in Berlin, we are looking as soon as possible for an

Economist with Focus on Climate Policy.

In a series of projects, Ecologic Institute is examining the question of how German and European climate policy can shape the transformation to a climate-neutral economy. What policy instruments do we need to initiate change in various fields of action, and how can they be combined into a coherent whole? What role do economic instruments such as carbon pricing play in this? How can existing instruments be further developed and improved? What conflicts are to be expected, and what solutions are available?

Does that sound interesting to you?

Then, the climate team at Ecologic Institute looks forward to hearing from you as an experienced academic with expertise in climate policy.

Your tasks:

  • You will work on and manage projects on climate policy at national and European level – in particular on economic aspects of the transformation and the role of economic instruments.
  • You will carry out scientific analyses independently and prepare the results for the respective target group.
  • You will acquire new projects (in cooperation with the team), continue existing project strands and help to open up new subject areas for the Institute.
  • You will contribute project results to the scientific and political discourse and represent your work at workshops, conferences and other events.

Your profile:

  • You have completed a Master's degree, specialising in economics. A relevant PhD is an advantage.
  • You have professional experience (at least four years) in a relevant working environment, for example in environmental policy research and policy advice, in an association, an enterprise or a civil society organisation related to climate and environmental issues.
  • You have very good knowledge of German and European climate and energy policy and the current challenges.
  • You have a strong understanding and up-to-date knowledge of environmental policy instruments (in particular emissions trading, CBAM and other economic instruments).
  • Knowledge of the role of individual sectors in the transformation to climate neutrality is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of emissions trading and CO2 pricing beyond Europe is also an advantage.
  • You have excellent methodological (qualitative and quantitative) and very good analytical skills.
  • You have experience in the acquisition and management of projects at European or national level.
  • Contacts to relevant actors in politics and administration, science and research, civil society and the private sector are an advantage.
  • You enjoy working independently as well as in a team and feel comfortable in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
  • You have a very good command of written and spoken German and English.

Our offer:

  • You will work at a renowned scientific institute and leading international think tank that develops solutions for the most pressing environmental policy challenges of our time. Your work is scientifically sound and politically independent – in constant dialogue with experts and decision-makers from politics, research, business and civil society
  • As part of an international team, you will experience an inspiring working atmosphere in a flexible and family-friendly environment with flat hierarchies.
  • You will work on projects independently and strengthen your profile in the field of climate protection and climate economics. You can build on the Institute's excellent references and networks.
  • We will support you and open up scope for creativity and further training opportunities to deepen your expertise and develop your professional skills.
  • We offer you a permanent employment contract with a workload of at least 30 hours per week.
