In the NBS for Climate Protection – Financing climate-friendly soil management project, Oeko-Institut, Ecologic Institute, and Justus-Liebig University Giessen have analysed climate-friendly soil management measures and the policy instruments to promote them. In addition to an evaluation of the potential of nature-based solutions and assessment of specific measures, the project has focussed on the risks and challenges associated with funding climate-friendly soil management and the appropriateness of incentive-based approaches. Current legal and political framework conditions for nature-based solutions and climate-friendly soil use have also been examined. Hugh McDonald presented preliminary findings from the final report "Funding climate friendly soil management: Appropriate policy instruments and limits of market-based approaches" to an audience of more than 100 staff from the German Environment Agency.
