European Food and Agriculture in a New Paradigm

A breakfast briefing to launch the Think2030 paper 'European food and agriculture in a new paradigm: Can global challenges like climate change be addressed through a farm to fork approach?', co-written by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and Ecologic Institute.

The paper explores the opportunities of the Farm to Fork Strategy, inquires policy needs on the production and consumption side and specifically gives recommendations on how to potentially structure the EU Legal Framework for Sustainable Food Systems (tabled for 2023), which could help to address agri-food policies in a more holistic way by bringing all legislative and non-legislative initiatives under one roof. Dr. Ana Frelih-Larsen and Stephanie Wunder from Ecologic Institute were co-authors on the paper.

In the context of the European Parliament’s initiative report "on a Farm to Fork Strategy for a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system" (2020/2260(INI)), which will be voted on by the European Parliament plenary in the coming weeks, the IEEP authors, Faustine Bas-Defossez among others, shared key findings and recommendations for policies within the 2030 time horizon and beyond, followed by remarks from the EP shadow-rapporteurs MEP Tilly Metz /Greens/EFA) and Inés Jordana (EU Food Policy Coalition), on the European Parliament own-initiative report on the Farm to Fork strategy, and questions from the audience.
