Assessment of Draft CAP Strategic Plans with Respect to Environmental Requirements

The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period 2023-2027 presents new opportunities to support the transition to sustainable agricultural production in Europe. In this project, Ecologic Institute together with a consortium led by Ecorys, supported the European Commission Directorate General for the Environment in their assessment of the new CAP Strategic Plans prepared by Member States.
The study had the following objectives:
- To carry out an ex ante analysis based on the current (2014-2020) state of CAP implementation in each Member State, with respect to the actions that are relevant to environmental objectives
- To deliver, for each Member State, an assessment of the current needs for reaching environmental objectives, taking into account the EU Green Deal
- To support the European Commission in the review of each individual CAP Strategic Plans
- To provide ad hoc advice on specific environmental topics
Ecologic Institute was in charge of the coordination of the assessment of current needs for reaching environmental objectives, including the EU Green Deal. It contributed to the assessment of the Strategic Plans of specific Member States and provided ad hoc advice on the topics of water, soils and climate.
