German Federal Minister for the Environment Jürgen Trittin and the British Minister for Farming, Food and Sustainable Energy Lord Whitty of Camberwell opened the 5. British-German Environment Forum (BGEF). This year's event was dedicated to discussing strategies how to process "From Fossil to Future Fuels".
The participants discussed in three working groups:
- Security of supply and reduction of the economic dependence on fossil fuel imports
- Promotion of sustainable energy-efficient practices and technologies
- German-British co-operation in international energy policy
