The fourth RADOST annual report provides a comprehensive overview of activities and results of the RADOST project in the period from April 2012 to January 2013. The richly illustrated volume describes the state of research and networking in the six focus areas of coastal protection, tourism and beach management, water management and agriculture, ports and maritime economy, conservation and land use as well as renewable energies. The report is available for download.

After five years of research and dialog about climate change and adaptation along the German Baltic Sea coast, the RADOST project (Regional Adaptation Strategies for the German Baltic Sea Coast) presents its most important findings in this final report. Thanks to a joint effort between research institutions, businesses, public administrations, and civil society, adaptation strategies and measures were developed. On 5 June 2014, the one-day conference "Climate Mitigation Requires Initiative – Conference on the Strategic Development of the NKI" took place in Berlin under the scope of the project "Strategic Development of the National Climate Initiative (NKI)". 150 participants from policy, business, scientific institutions, and civil society discussed and exchanged their views on the main focal points for the further development of the NKI. In this 8th event of the series Biodiversity - local/global, Katrin Schneider, from KORINA - UfU e.V. Halle, took a closer look at this problem.

 


On 7 May 2013, Stephan Sina, Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute, took part in a discussion in Berlin on the energy transition in Germany (Energiewende) organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. The other contributors were Herrmann-Otto Solms (FDP) and Georg Zachmann (Breughel Institut, Brussels). Steffen Hentrich (Liberal Institut) moderated the discussion. About 60 participants attended the event.

On 8 April 2014, the second monitoring report from the Federal Government and the joint statement from the Expert Commissions about the "Energy of the Future" monitoring process were presented. The Ecologic Institute supports the work of the Expert Commission by providing scientific input. The statement on the German "Energiewende", under review for the second year in 2012, had mixed findings. The major message is that while Germany is expected to meet its renewable energy targets, further efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency are necessary.
