MILESECURE 2050 explores and evaluates the multidimensional process leading to European low-carbon energy security. Taking a perspective to 2050, the project will increase knowledge about the drivers of and barriers to societal and individual transition processes as well as develop governance approaches for low-carbon energy security.

<p>CLEANSEA is a research project that takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying marine litter. CLEANSEA assesses the state of marine litter in European seas, rivers and on beaches and its impact on biological, social and economic processes. It aims to develop new tools to help collect data and monitor on litter and develop policy options to improve the management of marine litter by identifying deficiencies in existing legislation and standards. CLEANSEA focuses mainly on marine areas relevant to the EU; the Black Sea, Mediterranean, Baltic and North East Atlantic region. The project is funded under the 7th Research Framework Programme of the EU (FP7). The consortium has diverse partners including research institutes, universities, SMEs, and an NGO.</p>&#13;

The interdisciplinary research project "European Union Action to Fight Environmental Crime" (EFFACE) assesses the impacts of environmental crime as well as effective and feasible policy options for combatting it, with a focus on the EU. The project is funded under the 7th Research Framework Programme of the EU (FP7). Ecologic coordinates the work of 11 European universities and think tanks involved in the project.

The EU research project "Bottom-Up Climate Adaptation Strategies for a Sustainable Europe" (BASE) supports action for sustainable climate change adaptation in Europe. BASE makes experiential and scientific information on adaptation meaningful, transferable and easily accessible to decision-makers at all levels. The project is funded under the EUs 7th Research Framework Programme (FP7).

At the end of March 2016, the European Union FP7 research project DYNAMIX came to a close. DYNAMIX aimed at proposing policy mixes that can foster shifting the EU onto a pathway where its resource use and the associated environmental impacts decline in absolute terms while the economy continues to thrive. This FP7 research project, led by Ecologic Institute, combined quantitative modeling and qualitative assessments to provide EU and national policy-makers with tangible support towards implementing resource efficiency policies.

DEMEAU is a three-year EU FP7-funded project to demonstrate promising technologies that tackle emerging pollutants in water and wastewater. DEMEAU provides environmental impact and costs assessments (i.e. life cycle assessment and life cost assessment) and showcases four groups of technologies: managed aquifer recharge, hybrid ceramic membrane filtration, hybrid advanced oxidation and bioassays. The objective of DEMEAU is to demonstrate the suitability and cost-effectiveness of innovative methods and technologies to reduce levels of emerging pollutants in water and wastewater.

A new Ecologic Institute led research project on EU climate policy, called "CECILIA2050" has taken off with an internal kick-off meeting, the website launch and a first public event at the climate summit in Doha, Qatar. The three-year project is to draft recommendations for a suitable mix of instruments to help the EU achieve the 2050 emission reduction targets set by Heads of State and Government in 2009.

The FP7 research project Policy-Oriented Marine Environmental Research in the Southern European Seas (PERSEUS) supports the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) in the Mediterranean and Black Seas. PERSEUS strengthens the application of the ecosystem-based management approach, which considers both ecological and anthropogenic dynamics within an ecosystem.

The three-year research project "InContext" identified framework conditions enabling societal transition towards an ecologically sound, economically successful and culturally diverse future. Action at local and individual levels is vital to bring the concept of sustainable development to life. However, policies aimed at initiating such local and individual transitions towards sustainability can often not achieve the desired change. Thus, the EU research project InContext has set out to investigate the conditions for creating sustainability transitions at the local and individual levels.
