R. Andreas Kraemer, Founder & Director Emeritus of Ecologic Institute, begins an 18-month fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) in Potsdam, Germany, during which he will work on a research project on "Thinktanking in Theory and Practice". Among other things, he investigates internal management and professional development in this sector, as well as transdisciplinary methods like those used by the IASS and other institutes. The results of this research will feed into different activities and publications.

The Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP) is a joint project of the Ecologic Institute and the Atlantic Council. Launched in fall 2011, ELEEP is a dynamic, membership-only forum for the exchange of ideas, policy solutions, best-practices, and professional development for early and mid-career American and European leaders working on environmental and energy issues. ELEEP currently has about 100 members, split between the US and the EU. Members debate topics of the day online and meet regularly for study tours and other face-to-face activities. ELEEP is financially supported by the European Union, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, and the Allianz Foundation for North America.

On 29 April 2015, Ecologic Institute US and the Guarini Center on Environmental, Energy and Land Use Law at New York University School of Law hosted a discussion about the German Energiewende (Energy Transition). The event provided an opportunity for participants to speak with experts with first-hand insight into the Energiewende and the lessons it may hold for policymakers in New York State, currently pursuing their own comprehensive energy reforms. The American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) at Johns Hopkins University released a report detailing the future of power in a post-carbon society. Max Grünig, from Ecologic Institute co-authored the report with David Livingston. This Policy Report offers German and American perspectives on the emerging fuel challenges in the transportation sector and the importance of post-carbon cities. It is an example of AICGS' commitment to comparing and contrasting the interests and policies of Germany and the United States in an effort to identify common policy challenges, choices and opportunities. On 27 February 2015, experts from Germany and the United States joined in Washington, D.C. at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace to discuss their work as it related to the conference theme, The Geopolitics of Energy. This conference was sponsored by the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies at Johns Hopkins University with participation by Ecologic Institute Berlin.

This workshop aimed at discussing the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) trade agreement under negotiation between the European Union and the United States of America with regards to the specific food and agricultural provisions that would be included in the agreement. Issues with regulatory cooperation between the two systems as well as eliminating trade barriers to facilitate the flow of goods across the Atlantic were discussed. Ecologic Institute, US (EIUS) co-hosted the workshop with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) on 9 January 2015.

The Arctic Summer College is a virtual campus for learning about the environment in the Arctic and exchanging ideas on how the world can protect the Arctic from negative impacts of human activities in the High North. The college focuses on climate change adaptation, natural resource management, biodiversity protection, environmental governance, and human health. The Arctic Summer College 2015 enabled participants to be better prepared to finding solutions and implementing these in social and political processes.

The management board of the Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. (DUH) has appointed Sascha Müller-Kraenner—one of the founders and a partner of Ecologic Institute, Berlin and Vice-Chairman of the Ecologic Institute in Washington DC—as chief executive of the nature, environment, and consumer organization. The trained biologist has led the association since January 2015 together with Jürgen Resch who has held the position since 1986.

The American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) at Johns Hopkins University initiated a project in collaboration with the Ecologic Institute discussing the geopolitics of the Energy Transformation.

Ecologic Institute and the FracTracker Alliance inform and discuss about fracking and renewable energy sources. With 14 workshops in 7 countries on 3 continents, OUR ENERGY SOLUTIONS is creating an informed global community of engaged citizens, organizations, businesses, governments, and stakeholders to develop ideas and solutions to keep our society moving forward while preserving our planet for the future.

The Arctic Climate Change Emerging Leaders Fellowship (ACCEL), Barents Regional Youth Council, Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP), Reykjavik University, and Youth Arctic Coalition convened a workshop as well as a question and answer session with Admiral Robert J. Papp, U.S. Special Representative for the Arctic and the top U.S. Government Arctic official. The session took place at the 2014 Arctic Circle Assembly on 31 October 2014. From an economic and climate policy perspective, linking emissions trading systems is an attractive option. For that reason, the linking of emissions trading systems has received an increasing amount of attention in the political debate as well as in the research in recent years. In that context, issues that have received less attention are the legal and institutional arrangements for linked ETS: On what legal basis can Emissions Trading Systems be linked, which potential difficulties should be covered in a linking agreement, how can decisions be agreed upon and differences be settled and how could the linking agreement be terminated?
