Ecologic untersucht in diesem Projekt die institutionellen Interaktionen zwischen umweltpolitisch relevanten europäischen Rechtsinstrumenten und internationalen Abkommen. Auch wenn diese getrennt voneinander analysiert werden, beeinflussen sie sich doch gegenseitig in Leistung und Effektivität. Solche Wechselbeziehungen können, neben wünschenswerten Synergien, auch Konflikte nach sich ziehen, die dann ihrerseits die Wirksamkeit internationaler Umweltpolitik beeinträchtigen können.

Gegenstand dieser Untersuchung sind Wechselwirkungen zwischen internationalen und europäischen Umweltinstitutionen. Das Buch bietet sowohl einen theoretischen Untersuchungsrahmen als auch einen ersten Überblick über dieses bisher nur wenig bearbeitete Forschungsfeld. Es enthält detaillierte Fallstudien sowie eine systematische Analyse von deren Ergebnissen. Insgesamt untersucht es die Effekte institutioneller Wechselwirkungen auf die Umweltpolitik und beleuchtet, wie sich internationale und europäische Umweltpolitiken gegenseitig verstärken oder untergraben können.
