"Trade, Environment and Development: The North-South Dimensions" war der Titel der zweiten internationalen Konferenz des europäischen CAT-E Netzwerks zu Handel, Umwelt und nachhaltiger Entwicklung, die am 1.-2. November 2004 in der Königlichen Niederländischen Akademie der Künste und Wissenschaften in Amsterdam stattfand. Der Konferenzreport mit Programm, Zusammenfassungen der einzelnen Konferenzblöcke sowie Teilnehmerliste steht nun zum Herunterladen bereit.

Die Ausweitung der Kompetenzen der Welthandelsorganisation hat zu einem starken Bedarf an Forschung in dem Themenbereich Handel, Umwelt und nachhaltige Entwicklung geführt. Das von der EU geförderte CAT+E Projekt versucht, diesem Bedarf gerecht zu werden und die aktuelle Agenda zu strukturieren und zu analysieren. Anhand von Kurzstudien, Seminaren und internationalen Konferenzen werden Themen wie Investitionsliberalisierung, Handel von Dienstleistungen, Gesundheitswesen, Wettbewerbsrecht etc. und ihre Auswirkungen auf die Umweltpolitik untersucht, Forschungsdefizite identifiziert und die Netzwerkbildung zwischen europäischen Forschungsinstitutionen gefördert. Ecologics CAT+E Berichte stehen zum Download zur Verfügung.
