  1. Integrating Climate Change into Economic Analyses under the EU Water Framework Directive – Publication

Climate change will most likely impact the effectiveness and cost of measures to improve water quality. This must be taken into account in the future when selecting measures in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD). Until now, the consequences of climate change have not been systematically incorporated into the economic analyses called for by the WFD. A new study in the RADOST focus topic "Water Management and Agriculture" evaluates analytical approaches used to date, thereby contributing to the necessary discussion on how existing and future programs could consider and integrate the consequences of climate change. The report is available online.

  2. Fortschrittsforum: This is How We Want to Live – News

The Fortschrittsforum (forum for progress) of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) accompanied the work of the parliamentary commission on "growth, wealth, quality of life – ways to a sustainable economy and social progress in the social market economy". Max Grünig, Senior Fellow at the Ecologic Institute, was a member of the third working group of the Fortschrittsforum on economy and growth. The final report "This is How We Want to Live" is available for download.

  3. Changing Climate - Changing Transport – Presentation

Even though the "Energiewende", the long-term energy transformation, may be the talk of the town, what happens in transport policy is at least as important for the success or failure of German climate policies. The situation is complex: on the one hand, there is a range of promising projects, initiatives and innovative solutions for sustainable transport. On the other hand, transport volumes are growing along with the economy, and individual mobility is on the rise. As part of the Brühl expert discussion, a panel of distinguished experts, moderated by Benjamin Görlach of the Ecologic Institute, discussed options for the transformation to a low-carbon transport sector.

  4. Fish Protection & Downstream Migration at Hydraulic Engineering Sites - What is Needed? – Publication

The workshop "Fish Protection & Downstream Migration at Hydraulic Engineering Sites - What is Needed?" collectively addressed all aspects of fish protection and downstream fish migration that are relevant for dams and water extraction structures. The focal points of the workshop were the foundations of fish behavioral ecology, the technical installations used to achieve fish protection and downstream migration, and the functional evaluations of these systems. A results paper is now available for download.

  8. 1st DYNAMIX Policy Platform Explored Resource Efficiency Policy in Europe – Event

What is needed to move forward in resource efficiency policy in Europe? On 20 and 21 March 2013, more than 40 high-level representatives from EU and national government institutions, academia, business and civil society came together in Brussels during the 1st DYNAMIX Policy Platform to discuss this question. Participatory break-out sessions and a panel discussion including Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy (Member of European Parliament), Carina Vopel (European Commission) and Paul Ekins (University College London) contributed first-hand experience and facilitated mutual learning. All presentations given – including those by R. Andreas Kraemer and Katharina Umpfenbach from Ecologic Institute and Ernst-Ulrich von Weizsäcker from UNEP's International Resource Panel – are available for download from the project's website.
