This study analyses the relationship between sustainable forest management and international trade policy. Further it presents recommendations on how these two policy objectives can be mutually supportive.

Particular focus is given to the areas WTO, multilateral environmental agreements, EU, GSP and trade with illegal woods. The study's aim is to help the German Federal Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development update its forestry guidelines.
