With increasing extreme weather events, overloaded sewer systems and associated combined sewer overflows are no longer a rarity in Berlin. In order to develop sustainable and future-oriented solutions, close cooperation between experts from the fields of urban development, water management and nature conservation, as well as the responsible authorities and agencies, is essential.

That is why we invite you!

Take part in our half-day workshop “Transformation of urban stormwater management through nature-based solutions” and create future pathways for Berlin's stormwater management with us.

Contents of the workshop

Participants will first receive an overview of the current infrastructural and regulatory challenges and opportunities in Berlin's stormwater management. We will then work together in an interactive format to develop concrete solutions and future paths, with a focus on nature-based solutions.

Special highlight: the international and local guest contributions from science and practice! Jochen Flenker (Straßen- und Grünflächenamt Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf) will present successful approaches and strategies for improving the resilience of urban stormwater infrastructure and Franziska Baack (TU Twente, NL) will provide insights into governance aspects of nature-based solutions.
