1. Producing and marketing sustainable goods – Chances for small, medium-sized businesses and trade enterprises - Expert Dialogue
Hosted by the Federal Environment Ministry and the Federal Environment Agency, the second expert dialogue in the framework of the national dialogue process for the promotion of sustainable consumption and production patterns will take place on 24 September 2004 in Berlin. Entitled “Producing and marketing sustainable goods – Chances for small, medium-sized businesses and trade enterprises” the role of small and medium-sized businesses for the support of the development of sustainable consumption and production patterns in Germany will be analysed and opportunities as well as co-operation potentials will be discussed. 2. Sustainable futures and leadership in business - Dinner Dialogue with Francisco Szekely
The role of business in society as well as educating future leaders aware of the new responsibility of the private sector were the overarching topics of the Ecologic Dinner Dialogue convened on 15 September 2004 in honour of Dr. Francisco Szekely, adjunct professor at the European School for Management and Technology (ESMT) located in Berlin and Munich.

3. Legal context for emissions trading completed
On 28 July 2004 the federal cabinet adopted Minister Jürgen Trittin's proposal for the Allocation Regulation (Zuteilungsverordnung, ZuV 2007). It substantiates in particular the requirements the operators have to meet when applying for allocation and stipulates the methods of calculation for the allocation of allowances. With the emissions trading starting in January 2005, about 2350 operators will be able to participate. Ecologic supported the Federal Environment Ministry in drafting the Allocation Regulation.

4. Water uses and the protection of water bodies, steering mechanisms of environmental policy - Publication
This book chapter by Peter Kessler, Senior Policy Advisor at Ecologic, gives an introduction into the environmental policy instruments for the protection of water bodies and reports on a practical case study regarding ground water management in Hessisches Ried. Starting off with this instrumental approach, the chapter introduces the objectives of the German Working Group of the Federal States on water issues (LAWA) with regard to surface water. It continues with the strategic approach as it was embodied in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and finally presents the actors in the area of water policy.

5. Yearbook Ecology 2005
The Yearbook Ecology 2005 will be published at the end of September 2004. Ecologic is one of the institutes supporting the yearbook. This year's focus is on renewable energy, ressource conflicts, and sustainable economy.
