In his presentation, Dr. Wolfgang Urban, picked out the future expansion of renewable energies. He presented, from the perspective of the German federal government, the challenges and prospects for biogas. After the placement of bioenergy in the "orchestra of renewable energies" he examined the contribution of biogas and biomethane in order to achieve the policy objectives. He ended his remarks with a presentation of the latest developments and the conveyor frame. The presentation slides are available for download.

In his conclusions Dr. Wofgang Urban noted that wind and solar energy will be the pillars of energy policy. However, these requires a high flexibility of the residual power supply. As a result, biomass and CHP plants have to take over their new role as controllable generation capacity and fully contribute their advantages. Therefore the EEG sets some incentives. It is now important to observe how accurately these are configured and if further improvement is needed. The energy transition process has to be continued in a consensual process, as cost-effective as possible, and while ensuring supply security.

Affordable, safe and environmentally friendly energy shall strengthen Germany's competitiveness by 2050
