Panel discussion

The final event of the 13th Hessian Climate Protection Forum was a high level panel discussion on the international climate negotiations in Copenhagen. Panelists included the Hessian Secretary of State Mark Weinmeister, Wintershall Board Member Dr. Gerhard König, Franzjosef Schafhausen from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, and Dr. Camilla Bausch from the Ecologic Institute. Journalist Thomas Hanke (Handelsblatt) moderated the panel.

The Goal of the 13th Hessian Forum was to understand the challenges for secure, reasonably priced and climate friendly energy considering the climate protection goals of the EU, Germany and Hesse. The final panel discussion was to focus on the broader context of international climate negotiations. After initial statements, which touched on controversial topics like nuclear energy, new coal plants in Germany and the future of gas supplies, the audience engaged in a rather heated discussion. Participants asked for new visions, and underlined the importance of renewable energies and energy efficiency.
