Teresa Spantzel works as a Researcher in the fields of biodiversity and nature restoration at Ecologic Institute in Berlin. Her research focuses on the protection of biodiversity and the restoration of ecosystems, as well as the implementation and mainstreaming of nature-based solutions in urban areas. Teresa Spantzel is a native German speaker, is fluent in English and Portuguese, and has a good knowledge of Swedish.

At Ecologic Institute, Teresa Spantzel is involved in several biodiversity projects, including a project focused on supporting the national implementation of nature restoration targets, where she supports the team in planning and implementing the national restoration plans for Germany on behalf of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). In addition, she works on developing guidelines for the mitigation of conflicts between nature conservation and climate protection in peatland protection. Teresa Spantzel is also involved in carrying out a practical test of the recommended procedure for monitoring the success of hydromorphological measures in and along flowing waters, commissioned by the Bund/Länder-Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wasser (LAWA). Moreover, she supports the project "The German North Sea and Baltic Sea over 100 Years Ago" in the development of a historical baseline of the ecosystems before the start of intensive human use as a guide for determining the necessary nature conservation measures and areas.
