Evgeniya Elkina works as a Researcher at Ecologic Institute. Her current research focuses on projects at the intersection of water, nature, and climate policies. She works in English and has an advanced knowledge of German. Her native language is Russian.
At Ecologic Institute, Evgeniya Elkina supports the RESTORE4Cs project focused on restoring European coastal ecosystems and understanding their role in climate change mitigation and adaption. She contributes to policy analysis and evaluation, concentrating on both the European and global level, and supports the development of environmental policy solutions and recommendations. In addition, Evgeniya Elkina analyses EU policy instruments to assess their impact on the transition to a nature-positive economy as part of the GoNaturePositive! project. Furthermore, she examines legal aspects of implementing the UN Agreement on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) in the Arctic within the DynArc project.
Prior to joining Ecologic Institute, Evgeniya Elkina worked for a private environmental NGO that deals with the conservation of Lake Baikal, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. She led projects on water and biodiversity conservation as well as climate adaption both remotely and on site. Additionally, she represented the organization at an international level, for example, at the UNEP stakeholder consultations. Moreover, Evgeniya Elkina completed an EcoLaw Fellowship, which was part of the project "Strengthening Environmental Legal Instruments in Russia", supported by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and "Brot für die Welt". Her fellowship focused on the barriers and opportunities of the Paris Agreement implementation in Russia and was hosted by Ecologic Institute and ClientEarth.
Evgeniya Elkina holds a bachelor's degree in International Public Law with a focus on the environmental dimension. In addition, she graduated from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (the Netherlands) with a master's degree in Environment and Resource Management with a specialization on Energy and Climate.
