The European Topic Center on Biodiversity and Ecosystems supports the European Environment Agency on the topic area of terrestrial, freshwater and marine biodiversity and ecosystems for the period 2023-2026. Biodiversity and ecosystems is one of five strategic work areas in the EEA-Eionet Strategy 2021-2030. In particular, it provides support to the monitoring requirements and assessments of progress towards the implementation of the 8th EAP, European Green Deal and the implementation of existing EU legislation and policies. It also carries out integrated assessments of terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems, taking into account climate change, socio-economic drivers and pressures, and scenarios on future responses and solutions to growing environmental challenges.

Ecologic Institute supports the European Topic Center in the field of water policy and management. In particular, it provides coordination and technical support for the preparation of the State of European Water and the Integrated Water Assessment.
