Water Resources Allocation and Agriculture – Book

In this open-access book, Ecologic Institute's Dr. Josselin Rouillard, along with co-editors, compiles an international review of water-allocation strategies that support the transition to sustainable water use in regions in which agriculture is the dominant water-using sector. The book brings together the experience and knowledge of more than 30 leading scholars and practitioners in water allocation systems across the world to present a comprehensive, novel and innovative account of water allocation in a range of international settings. It addresses five key crosscutting issues shaping the challenge of sustainable water-allocation policy, and presents 13 national, state and transboundary case studies. The book is available for download.

Circular Flow and Secondary Raw Materials – Report

The circular economy helps to improve raw material security and reduce the environmental impact of production and consumption. This study presents 17 inspiring examples of how companies and scientists are putting the circular economy into practice: from recycling construction materials and metals, to improving the sorting and recycling of plastics, to new business models that help turn waste into resources or keep materials in circulation longer through services. The study by Susanne Langsdorf, Mandy Hinzmann and Laurens Duin (Ecologic Institute) is available for download in German.

Energy Prosumers in Europe – Report

Energy prosumption through the deployment of residential renewable energy technologies reduces greenhouse gas emissions, speeds up the energy transition and provides important community benefits. In a new report, the European Environment Agency assesses energy prosumption models used throughout the EU and recommends policy tools that can allow even more EU citizens to benefit from energy prosumption. The publication builds on a study produced by CE Delft, Fraunhofer ISI and Ecologic Institute, and is available for download.

Carbon Dioxide Removals in EU Member States – Report

CO2 removal is becoming a central part of climate action, but policy frameworks of EU Member States lack basics. In this Ecologic Institute report, Dr. Nils Meyer-Ohlendorf and Deyana Spasova analyze EU member states' carbon dioxide removal frameworks. The report is available for download.

Removing CO2 – Are Member States ready? – Article

Member State policies for CO2 removal lack a sound basis, which presents a substantial problem for society. Dr. Nils Meyer-Ohlendorf discusses possible solutions in the Tagesspiegel. The article is available online.

Review of Social and Gender Dimensions in Climate Adaptation Interventions in Coastal Areas – Article

This article presents the results of a rapid review of the literature on gender and coastal climate adaptation conducted for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report (AR6). The findings highlight the lack of data on gender as a social dimension of adaptation and the gaps in current indicators for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goal for gender (SDG5). The article, to which Katriona McGlade of Ecologic Institute contributed, emphasizes the need for gender-disaggregated data on coastal adaptation efforts to fully capture both positive and negative gender dimensions of climate adaptation. It is available online.
