In this open-access book, Ecologic Institute's Dr. Josselin Rouillard, along with co-editors, compiles an international review of water-allocation strategies that support the transition to sustainable water use in regions in which agriculture is the dominant water-using sector. The book brings together the experience and knowledge of more than 30 leading scholars and practitioners in water allocation systems across the world to present a comprehensive, novel and innovative account of water allocation in a range of international settings. It addresses five key crosscutting issues shaping the challenge of sustainable water-allocation policy, and presents 13 national, state and transboundary case studies. The circular economy helps to improve raw material security and reduce the environmental impact of production and consumption. This study presents 17 inspiring examples of how companies and scientists are putting the circular economy into practice: from recycling construction materials and metals, to improving the sorting and recycling of plastics, to new business models that help turn waste into resources or keep materials in circulation longer through services. Energy prosumption through the deployment of residential renewable energy technologies reduces greenhouse gas emissions, speeds up the energy transition and provides important community benefits. In a new report, the European Environment Agency assesses energy prosumption models used throughout the EU and recommends policy tools that can allow even more EU citizens to benefit from energy prosumption. This article presents the results of a rapid review of the literature on gender and coastal climate adaptation conducted for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report (AR6). The findings highlight the lack of data on gender as a social dimension of adaptation and the gaps in current indicators for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goal for gender (SDG5). The article, to which Katriona McGlade of Ecologic Institute contributed, emphasizes the need for gender-disaggregated data on coastal adaptation efforts to fully capture both positive and negative gender dimensions of climate adaptation. The environmental disaster on the Oder River has brought the issue of environmental crime back into the spotlight. In a video report by the TV station Deutsche Welle, experts, including Dr. Stephan Sina of Ecologic Institute, explain the reasons for the difficulties in prosecuting environmental crimes and possible approaches for improvement. On 4 July 2022, around 30 experts discussed political strategies for regionalizing the food system, while achieving as many positive sustainability effects as possible and avoiding negative impacts. After a three-year hiatus, the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) resumed in-person trainings with the 2022 edition of its flagship training activity, the two-week ICAP Summer School on Emissions trading. The training took place in Florence (Italy) from 22 August to 2 September 2022. Participation in the summer school was open to applicants from emerging economies and developing countries. The course was aimed at public officials and stakeholders from the non-governmental, academic and private sectors who are - or will be - involved in making decisions on, designing and implementing carbon-pricing mechanisms.

This international conference provides an opportunity to learn and exchange knowledge on the topic of microplastics in soils, and is aimed at scientists and decision makers alike. The first day of the event focuses on the state of the science, the second day on identifying policy solutions and recommendations for action at the European and international level. It's that time again: From 15 September to 15 November 2022, youths between the ages of 10 and 16 are being called upon to take part in the "Plastic Pirates – Go Europe!" campaign together with their teachers or group leaders. The aim is for participants to deal with the issue of plastic waste in the environment – especially in and around rivers. The accompanying teaching and working materials, along with the booklet, guide the participants through the campaign and can be ordered by teachers or group leaders on the campaign website free of charge.

Nature-based Solutions (NBS) for EU cities and regions represent an integral part of the EU's transition to achieving climate neutrality. In this panel, moderated by Ecologic Institute's McKenna Davis on 11 October 2022, experts will discuss effective, just and inclusive strategies to design, implement and manage NBS, while engaging under-represented or marginalized stakeholders. Panelists will discuss successful, inclusive NBS co-creation processes and opportunities for upscaling through concrete public commitments under the European Climate Pact.
