The capacity of planet Earth has reached its limits. Our environmental impact increases due to the depletion of resources, population growth, emissions of pollutants and soil erosion. Only if governments, leaders in industry and finance, and civil society pull together, can a global disaster be prevented. On 22 November 2006 the Club of Rome and the SPD-Denkfabrik will present this discussion at the German Bundestag. Host-speaker will be Prof. Dr. Dennis Meadows, co-author of "Limits to Growth: The 30-Year Update". In his presentation Dennis Meadows begins with a snap-shot from a scientific perspective of trends in global economic, social, and ecological development based on his research activity. He will continue with a focus on questions arising from the socio-economic consequences as they relate to Germany: can renewable energy secure the energy supply? Which legal or voluntary steps can enable economic growth in an ecological sustainable future? Which role does the energy industry play and how can it support renewable energy, energy savings and energy efficiency?
Meadows is author or co-author of various books on future questions, system analysis and computer-based strategy games. The most known book was published in 1972 under the title "Limits to Growth". 30 years later, the authors have up-dated their former conclusions on population growth, industrialisation and environmental pollution and developed potential scenarios extending to the year 2100.
