At the NetworkNature Annual Event held on 8 June 2023 at the Flagey Building in Brussels (Belgium) participants gathered to explore the transformative potential of Nature-based Solutions (NBS) across sectors and communities.
The event featured interviews, presentations, panel debates, and interactive sessions aimed at discussing the necessary policy, economic, and scientific transformations to mainstream NBS. Attendees learned about the creative side of NBS and the products offered by NetworkNature to support policymakers, practitioners, and businesses in implementing NBS on the ground.
One noteworthy panel discussion included Natalia Burgos, representing the INTERLACE project, alongside representatives from the European Commission, the European Environmental Bureau, and the German Environment Agency. Natalia emphasized the importance of participatory processes in deploying NBS effectively and inclusively. She showcased examples from the Urban Governance Atlas, highlighting how policies in Latin America and Europe support the deployment of NBS in different ways. Natalia called for increased flexibility in institutions and mindsets to ensure successful NBS implementation and scaling-up.
“As a Latin American voice, I am glad to share between continents. @INTERLACE_NBS believes that #NaturebasedSolutions cannot fulfill their potential without people. We need participation, inclusion, and justice. The #UrbanGovernanceAtlas helps us here.”🪻Natalia Burgos Cuevas pic.twitter.com/TKu1x0BILc
