Doris Knoblauch, Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute and Coordinator for Urban and Spatial Governance, gave a presentation on 23 February 2024 at the event "Climate Protection through Nature-based Solutions", organized by Verbraucherzentrale Sachsen. She gave an introduction to the effects of climate change in Germany and Leipzig and presented the concept of "nature-based solutions". She also showed which nature-based solutions can help to adapt to which climate change challenge. Finally, Doris Knoblauch presented examples from Leipzig.

Verbraucherzentrale Sachsen ("Consumer Association Saxony") regularly organizes events at which presentations are given on the topic of climate protection and the participants, usually interested citizens and experts from Leipzig, can discuss with the speakers afterwards, but also with each other.

Apart from the introductory presentation by Doris Knoblauch, a second presentation was given by Nicole Brühl from the project "Grüne Höfe" ("Green Courtyards") of BUND Leipzig. Nicole Brühl presented the project and the newly greened courtyards, as well as lessons learned from the project. The presentations were followed by discussions with the audience about the concrete effects of climate change in Leipzig, concrete projects on site – e.g. green roofs and façades –, questions about the maintenance of the green courtyards and co-design strategies in practice.

Nature-based solutions are multifunctional and usually have long-term benefits for society, the environment and the economy.
