What will Ecologic achieve in the next ten years?
This year's anniversary begs the question.

The Institute was established ten years ago in the wake of German unification, when environment, sustainable development, European integration and multilateral cooperation were not high on the political agenda. This has not changed substantially, and currently climate change policy remains the only environmental topic deemed worthy of attention at the highest levels.

Growing in spite of these circumstances, Ecologic has become a strong voice for environment and sustainable development in European integration and international relations, and a voice for co-ordinated international and European responses to environmental challenges. It is a hub for professionals with inter-cultural skills and a record of finding solutions through inter-disciplinary work.

This would not have been possible without selfless staff dedication, and the generous support, help and advice we have received through grants and contracts, co-operation and friendship. I wish to thank all of those who in manifold ways have helped Ecologic become what it is today.

In the next 10 years, Ecologic will continue to cover all aspects of environmental policy, from air pollution control to water resource management, from bio-diversity to land use policy, from corporate environmental management to multilateral environmental agreements. We will also carry on engagement with other policy fields that determine how much nature we protect, use or damage. We will seek even more opportunities for international exchange with researchers, scholars and policy-makers.

Our goal remains a sustainable and equitable global society. The steps we can take remain closely correlated to the support we receive from clients, grant-makers, sponsors and donors. I invite you to continue to follow and support Ecologic’s development and mission.
