On 23 May 2016, the ELEEP Network hosted a Side Event at the May UNFCCC meeting in Bonn. The event featured guest speakers Aki Kachi (ELEEP Fellow 2015/2016) and Michael Mehling (MIT). Matthias Duwe (Head of Climate, Ecologic Institute) moderated the event. During the event, the speakers discussed existing options for the development of carbon markets post-Paris and provided a perspective on what they could mean for carbon markets in the US and the EU. Low-carbon Energy Security from a European Perspective

This book draws on the European Commission funded project MILESECURE-2050. It considers low-carbon energy security and energy geopolitics in Europe with a focus on four thematic clusters: challenging the energy security paradigm; climate change and energy security objectives (the components of a secure and low-carbon energy system); energy security in a geopolitical perspective, as it relates to economics, resource competition, and availability; and the influence of large scale renewable energy projects on energy security and shifting geopolitical alliances. Max Grünig served as one of the book's editors and further researchers, Andreas Prahl, Katherine Weingartner and Brandon O'Donnell, were chapter authors.Read more

Vivienne Parry welcomed approximately 1700 attendees from over 100 countries to the fourth edition of Adaptation Futures 2016, one of the largest conferences ever held on climate change adaptation. The Bottom-Up Climate Adaptation Strategies (BASE) project was selected to be featured as a best practice project at the conference. Considerations for the Baltic Sea Shipping Sector

Brief of Stakeholder Meeting
The BONUS project SHEBA (Sustainable Shipping and Environment in the Baltic Sea region) held a workshop with participants from various shipping-related sectors. The workshop aimed to better understand the environmental pressures of shipping in the Baltic and how these impacts might change over time, as well as which policies and abatement technologies could be important in the future. Governance for Drought Resilience – Results of the DROP-Project published

The book "Governance for Drought Resilience" presents the findings of scientists and practitioners who collaborated on the project "Benefits of Governance in Drought Adaptation" (DROP). It aims to aid regional water authorities and other relevant stakeholders interested in governance assessment. Staff members from Ecologic Institute summarized regional studies; contributed to the cross-cutting perspective chapters on nature, agriculture, freshwater and introduced European drought and water scarcity policies.

Ecologic Institute: Science and Policy for a Sustainable World

Ecologic Institute conducts inter- and transdisciplinary environmental research. The experts at Ecologic Institute also prepare political analyses and function as consultants. Ecologic Institute operates branches in Berlin, Brussels and Washington DC. In its role as a private, independent organization, Ecologic Institute is dedicated to the preparation of relevant sociopolitical aspects of sustainability research and contributing new knowledge to environmental policy. Innovative research methods, an orientation on practice and a transdisciplinary approach ensure scientific excellent and social relevance. The work done at Ecologic Institute covers the spectrum of environmental topics and includes the integration of environment-related issues into other political spheres.

Ecologic Institute was founded in 1995 and collaborates closely with other European and international bodies, including active participation as a member of the Ecological Research Network (Ecornet). Today, the more than 100 individuals at Ecologic Institute work in a variety of international and interdisciplinary project teams.
