Participation in Climate Change Adaptation

This report aims at investigating the participation process in climate change adaptation for 22 European BASE case studies. A description of participatory methods and a further analysis of 9 BASE case studies where there has been a deliberative adaptation process present are given. Based on the results presented, a set of recommendations to policy-makers and practitioners are given. The output from D5.3 will lead up to D5.5, in which a more detailed analytical description of the framework will be given and a meta-analysis of the empirical contents will be delivered.Read more

Experiences of Bottom-up Adaptation Approaches in Europe and Beyond

This report takes stock of adaptation planning and measures to date in Europe and globally. Case studies for assessment were selected based on criteria developed in line with the key principles and objectives of BASE. The report provides a general assessment of 136 selected case studies focusing on aspects including types of measure, stakeholder groups involved, sectors, decision support tools (participatory and economic), and funding sources. A further nine case studies are then explored in more detail in regard to measure selection and methods.Read more

Regions and Cities within the Global Climate Change Process – a Perspective for the Future

In this project, Ecologic Institute together with ICLEI and Umweltbundesamt Wien, support the Committee of the Regions in analysing the role of cities and regions in the UNFCCC process after the adoption of the Paris Agreement. The project identifies positions of cities and regions, analyses the outcome of COP21 in this respect, and highlights future opportunities in the UNFCCC process to get remaining positions endorsed.Read more

NetBiome-CSA is a European funded project that aims to extend and strengthen research partnerships and cooperation for the smart and sustainable management of tropical and subtropical biodiversity in Outermost Regions (ORs) and Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs). The NetBiome Network, with the participation of Ecologic Institute, has developed a Strategic Document that compiles a series of policy and research priorities for improving knowledge about biodiversity and the practice of biodiversity governance in the EU ORs and OCTs. The priorities emerged from participatory processes within NetBiome-CSA. The document is available for download.Read more

Ahrensfelde was a "city of the future" as part of the project "City of the future - living together sustainably" and creates a vision about what the community should look like in 2030 and beyond. In order to develop the vision, a survey was conducted among the citizens of Ahrensfelde in November 2015. Doris Knoblauch presented the results of the survey at a town hall meeting on the 30 November 2015 and she also moderated the evening.Read more
