 Zoë Robaey
Master of European Studies in Science, Society and Technology (ESST)

Transatlantic Fellow

Zoë Robaey is a Transatlantic Fellow at Ecologic Institute from November 2008 until June 2009. Her work mostly focuses on environmental problems related to biodiversity issues in Europe and on sustainability issues with regards to consumer choices. She is bridging between disciplines of the natural and social sciences for an integrative understanding of environmental problems and is further interested in the development of environmentally preferable technologies. Zoë works in English, French and German and has a basic knowledge of Spanish.

Zoë started her studies in natural sciences and completed an Honours B.Sc. in Biology, with a focus on ecology at the University of Ottawa. Looking for a link between her scientific and social interests, Zoë was accepted at Maastricht University to complete a Master of European Studies in Science, Society and Technology (ESST). In Maastricht, she discovered disciplines that led her to consider policy-making as a field where her interests could be fulfilled.

Within the ESST network, Zoë also studied in Strasbourg to specialize in the "Politics of Knowledge: Assessing and Communicating Risks". Her thesis aimed at looking into different perceptions of environmental risks. She worked specifically on an environmental assessment case which went through a judicial review in Canada. Her work was highly interdisciplinary involving research in the ecological, juridical, political and social spheres.

With Ecologic she hopes to continue her interdisciplinary and international work and gain a unique perspective on both the process of policy-making and transatlantic relations. Zoë is a Canadian and French citizen.
