Transatlantic Intern

Michael Perry was a transatlantic intern at Ecologic Institute from June until October 2009 focusing on climate change, energy and renewable energy policy in the US and the EU. He is also interested in the fields of waste management and waste reduction, and the role of sustainable development in climate change policy. Michael is a native English speaker, and also works comfortably in German after studying and living in Germany for four years prior to his Master’s work.

Michael holds a bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in History and will complete his Master’s degree in International Environmental Policy at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in June 2010.

During his studies at the Monterey Institute, Michael has interned at the California Energy Commission (CEC) and at the Monterey Regional Waste Management District (MRWMD). At the CEC, he worked in the Renewable Energy Division reviewing and synthesizing reports for their annual Integrated Energy Policy Report. During the semester Michael interns at the MRWMD, where he researches local policy issues related to waste and the environment, and also assists with public education and outreach events about waste reduction.

 After graduating in May 2010 he plans to move to Europe with his wife to continue working on climate change and energy policy.
