Communication on the IPCC Special Reports "Climate Change and Land" and "The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate"

The aim of the project participants is to provide the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) with scientific support in communicating the results of the IPCC Special Reports on "Climate Change and Land" (SRCCL) and "The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate" (SROCC). This is achieved by preparing the contents of the special reports by means of core messages, explanatory texts and presentations in webinars.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) uses various formats to display scientific information on climate change. In addition to Assessment Reports (AR) and Methodology Reports (MR), Special Reports (SR) are published that deal with specific topics. The forthcoming Special Report on "Climate Change and Land" will summarise, analyse and evaluate global knowledge on the interaction between climate and land. Another Special Report to be published in 2019 will deal with "Oceans and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate".

UBA plays an important role in communicating the results of the IPCC Special Reports in the national context. To this end, the main contents of the special reports must be prepared for decision-shaper and decision-makers in all sectors of society in a target-group-specific manner. In addition, the results must also be prepared for the public in an understandable form and disseminated widely. In the form of webinars, the UBA would like to raise awareness of the special reports and their contents.
