Climate and Energy – a critical dialogue series on current issues

Project
Duration
-

Ecologic Institute conducted a series of five Dinner Dialogues, titled "Climate and energy – a critical dialogue series on current issues". The dialogues were aimed at promoting the debate in Germany on climate protection and sustainable energy, as well as at strengthening networks among actors. Ecologic Institute developed the content and formats of the dialogues.

The Dinner Dialogues offer selected decision-makers the possibility to debate in an atmosphere of trust under the Chatham House Rule — inspired by short impulse statements. The guests are high-level representatives from ministries, political parties, businesses, associations, academia and NGOs. On certain occasions also media is invited. The objective is to exchange positions and motivations for positions in a transparent and open manner, in spite of potential disagreements. This also allows identifying challenges and discuss potential solutions.

Topics included the German Climate Protection Plan 2050, the climate and energy policy of the European Union, or the German G20 Presidency.

Franzjosef Schafhausen, former Head of Section "Climate Policy, Europe and International Affairs" of the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Buildings and Nuclear Safety, moderates the Dinner Dialogues. The project was financed by Stiftung Mercator.
