The study "Control of land use - nature conversation strategies, policies and instruments" is now available for download. The study analyses the legal basis and the conceptual design of nature conversation strategies, policies and instruments for reducing or managing land use in Germany. In addition, implementation deficits of these instruments are identified.

2. Vital Soil - The Next Step Towards a European Soil Strategy - Background Paper online
As a contribution to the preparation of this Dutch EU-Presidency Conference on European Soil Protection Policy, Ecologic was commissioned to write a Background Paper on the current status of the European Soil Protection Policy and to identify possible ways forward for a better integration of soil protection aspects into other European policy areas. The Background Paper is now available for download.

3. Water Framework Directive Monitoring - Policy Brief and Workshop
The SWIFT-WFD project (Screening Methods for Water Data Information in support of the implementation of the Water Framework Directive) is aiming to support policy makers in designing the WFD monitoring programmes. Ecologic's role is to establish a strong link between scientific research and policy making by preparing quarterly Policy Briefs. The fourth issue of the SWIFT Policy Briefs is now available for download. The first annual workshop of the SWIFT-WFD project will be held on 7-8 March 2005 in Brussels.

4. The EU-Water Framework Directive as Possible Approach for Integrated River Basin Management - Publication
The concept of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), which is based on a cross-sectoral and sustainable management of water resources, is considered as comprehensive approach for addressing current water challenges world-wide. In the context of a publication by the German Institute for Development Policy, various strategies for IWRM are analysed. The contribution of Ecologic discusses the relevance of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD) for achieving IWRM in Europe.

5. International Comparison of Water Management - Publication
The results of the study "International Comparison of Water Management" have been published in five volumes by the Austrian Federal Chamber of Labour and the Austrian Association of Cities. The synthesis and conclusion of the study, which provides a systematic comparison against European and economic background, is now also available in English.

6. Job Creation Potential of Clean Technologies - Study online
The effects of environmental policies on the creation of jobs and employment in the European Union are gaining more and more in importance. This is one of the conclusion of Ecologic's study "Job Creation Potential of Clean Technologies" commissioned by the European Parliament. For several economic sectors the study analyses national backgrounds as well as recent policy developments on the national and European level. Brief assessments are given about the job creation potential of each sector. The study is now available for download.

7. Strategies of European Environmental Interest Groups for Influencing European Environmental Policy - Publication
Dr. Nils Meyer-Ohlendorf focuses in his contributing article on the influence of European environmental interest groups on European environmental policy. The article served as a contribution for the symposium "Representation of Interests by NGOs at European Level" at the Bucerius Law School, Hamburg.
