  1. ENVI Relevant Legislative Areas of the EU-US Trade and Investment Partnership Negotiations (TTIP) – Publication

    A recent study provides the members of the European Parliament Committee on Environment, Public Health, and Food Safety (ENVI Committee) with the needed expertise to monitor the ongoing negotiations between the United States and the European Commission for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement. The study was co-authored by Ecologic Institute, Bio IS, and the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and serves as a follow-up to a 2013 study entitled "Legal Implications of TTIP for the Acquis Communautaire in ENVI Relevant Sectors."   2. TTIP Stakeholder Forum – Presentations

    Christiane Gerstetter and Nils Meyer-Ohlendorf spoke on regulatory cooperation and investment protection in the stakeholder forum "TTIP re:negotiate" in Berlin on 17 November 2014. The event was co-organized by the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University, Washington DC (USA).

  3. Investment Protection under CETA – Presentation

    Dr. Nils Meyer-Ohlendorf testified in the Bundestag on investment protection under CETA on 15 December 2014 (Committee of Economy and Energy). He argued that investment protection in CETA is superfluous because the EU and Canada already provide high levels of investment protection through their national legal systems.   4. Social Dimensions of Climate Change Adaptation in Coastal Regions – Publication

    In their book "Social Dimensions of Climate Change Adaptation in Coastal Regions," Grit Martinez (Ecologic Institute), Peter Fröhle, and Hans-Joachim Meier address often overlooked but key societal aspects that influence stakeholders to engage or not to engage in adapting to a changing climate.Therefore sociocultural and ecological dimensions of adaptation to a changing climate in coastal regions are the focus of the anthology.

  5. Transformations of the Ecology Movement: the Development of Environmental Policy Consultancy – Presentations

    From 14 to 15 November 2014 the conference, "Transformations of the Ecology Movement: from the 'Limits to Growth' to the Rio Conference," took place in the Archiv Grünes Gedächtnis (Green Memory Archive) of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin. Doris Knoblauch and Susanne Langsdorf (both of Ecologic Institute) presented two articles on the development of environmental policy consultancy in Germany, which were written for the project "From 'The Blue Sky above the Ruhr' to the 'Energiewende.'" Both articles analyze the development of the environmental movement and non-state funded environmental policy research in West and East Germany in the 1970s and 1980s in order to explain still existing differences in non-state environmental policy consultancy and research.   6. More or Less? Changing Consumer Behavior – Presentation

    How can policy shape consumer behavior towards more sustainable choices? In a lecture at this year's Science Event in Vienna, Katharina Umpfenbach discussed the contributions of recent scientific findings in behavioral economics, sociology, and psychology to this debate. Hosted by Austria's Environment Agency and ORF, the event brought together scientists and practitioners working for local initiatives to explore how societal transformation towards sustainability can be achieved.   7. ECCA 2015: Call for Presentation Abstracts and Posters – News

    The second European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA) will take place in Copenhagen (Denmark) from 12 to 14 May 2015. Presentation abstracts can be submitted until 1 February 2015.

  8. European and National Resources Forum 2014 – Events

    Nearly 370 participants from over 40 countries participated in the 2nd European Resources Forum, which was hosted by the German Federal Environment Agency in Berlin on 10 and 11 November 2014 with the support of Ecologic Institute. The next day the National Resource Forum 2014 was held at the same place and visited by nearly 250 participants. The presentations and photos from the forum are now available on the conference website of the German Federal Environmental Agency.

  9. Youth in the Arctic: A Discussion Connecting the Leaders of Tomorrow and Today – Event

    The Arctic Climate Change Emerging Leaders Fellowship (ACCEL), Barents Regional Youth Council, Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP), Reykjavik University, and Youth Arctic Coalition convened a workshop as well as a question and answer session with Admiral Robert J. Papp, US Special Representative for the Arctic and the top US Government Arctic official. The session took place at the 2014 Arctic Circle Assembly on 31 October 2014.   10. "Role of the Criminal Justice System" and "Environmental Crime and Organized Crime" – EFFACE Workshops

    The EFFACE project organized two workshops on the "Role of the Criminal Justice System" and "Environmental Crime and Organized Crime" in Catania, Sicily. The workshops brought together enforcement officials, academic experts in the field of environmental crime, and NGO representatives. The objective was to develop recommendations on how the EU can improve the enforcement of existing legislation dealing with environmental crime and better understand the connections with organized crime. Workshop reports are available for download.
