  1. The Next EU Climate and Energy Package – EU Climate Policies after 2020 – Publication

    The future of EU climate and energy policy beyond the year 2020 is currently a matter of intense debate. The European Commission has tabled initial proposals for new targets and some changes to key instruments such as the Emissions Trading System (ETS) upon which the EU Heads of State and Government are to make decisions later in 2014. This study assesses the status quo of EU climate and energy policy and experience with the current set of targets and instruments – and distills from it concrete recommendations for a new package for the period until 2030.   2. Assessment of Climate Change Policies in the Context of the European Semester – Country Reports

    This collection of country reports assesses climate and energy policies in all 28 Members States of the European Union (EU). The reports were jointly produced by Ecologic Institute and eclareon to support the Directorate General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) of the European Commission in its contributions to the European Semester. Focusing on the period between February 2013 and November 2013, the reports provide insight into national policy developments and progress towards the achievement of the EU’s climate and energy targets.   3. Further Development of Material and Raw Material Input Indicators – Input Paper

    The input paper for the expert workshop held from 11 to 12 June 2014, in Berlin synthesizes findings from the review of indicator calculation methodologies and expert interviews. The present report is part of an ongoing project of UBA Germany to further develop material use indicators. The report is reviewing current state of the art with respect to the methodologies for calculating more comprehensive indicators than those currently in use.   4. Wishful and Fearful Thinking about International Law and Climate Engineering – Presentation

    At the international climate engineering conference from 18 to 21 August 2014, Dr. Ralph Bodle, Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute, was a speaker and panelist on international law and governance of climate engineering and related research. In his presentation and the following panel discussion on international law on geoengineering, he outlined how "Wishful and fearful thinking about international law and climate engineering" affect policy and governance debates on climate engineering in practice. Furthermore Dr. Ralph Bodle presented specific governance proposals from a study by Ecologic Institute. The study is available for download.

  5. Environmental Think Tanks and the German Environmental Policy – Presentation

    At Ecologic Institute, a delegation of the Secretariat of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), headed by Ms. Zhang Mengheng, was particularly interested in the research environment and the functioning of think tanks in Germany. The topic was introduced by R. Andreas Kraemer, Director of Ecologic Institute. Christiane Gerstetter, Senior Fellow, and Susanne Langsdorf, Researcher at Ecologic Institute, delved into the topic.

  6. Typology of Indicators and Tools – NETGREEN-Workshop

    NETGREEN develops a systematic and consistent overview on the existing efforts to measure sustainable development and the transformation to green economy. A critical input to NETGREEN was a one-day workshop held in The Hague (The Netherlands) on Wednesday, 11 June 2014. It was attended by potential users of the database from various EU Member States.   7. European Climate Adaptation Conference 2015 – ECCA 2015 Newsletter

    The ECCA 2015 will offer a unique platform for researchers, policy makers, and businesses to share new research results, novel policy developments, and practical implementation experiences on climate change impacts and adaptation. A special expo onsite at ECCA 2015 will also highlight innovative business opportunities, thereby demonstrating how climate change adaptation can contribute to job creation and other societal benefits in Europe.   8. "Sustainability in Berlin" Semester Abroad Program – News

    In September 2014, the Ecologic Institute and the College of Liberal Arts and Science at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) launch a new cooperation, the study program "Sustainability in Berlin". The program is unique as it combines actual coursework with an internship at relevant environmental institutions where students can experience first-hand what they have been learning. The two courses also combine academic reflections about global environmental challenges with field trips to local projects in and around Berlin.
