  1. RADOST Final Report and 5th Annual Report – Publication

    After five years of research and dialog about climate change and adaptation along the German Baltic Sea coast, the RADOST project (Regional Adaptation Strategies for the German Baltic Sea Coast) presents its most important findings in this final report. Thanks to a joint effort between research institutions, businesses, public administrations, and civil society, adaptation strategies and measures were developed in the areas of: coastal protection, tourism and beach management, water management and agriculture, ports and maritime economy, conservation and land use, and renewable energies.   2. Gap Analysis Report – Publication

    A new report on Arctic information and communication needs ("Gap Analysis Report") has been released as part of the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment of development of the Arctic Preparatory Action project, funded by DG Environment of the European Commission. The Gap Analysis Report was led by Ecologic Institute in partnership with the European Science Foundation, National Research Council of Italy, Sámi Education Institute, and Tromsø Centre for Remote Sensing.   3. Multilevel-governance of our Natural Capital – Publication

    The report "Multilevel-governance of our natural capital: the contribution of regional and local authorities to the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets" was prepared by Ecologic Institute and ICLEI. The study was conducted for the Committee of the Regions (CoR) to inform the CoR's contribution to the review of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and contribute to the monitoring of the implementation of CBD Decision X/22 within the Member States (MS). The main task of the study was the collection and analysis of information from the 28 MS and their regions and cities on the involvement of local and regional authorities in the implementation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and CBD Decision X/22.   4. New and Innovative Climate Actions for the LULUCF sector – Presentation

    On 23 May 2014 in Brussels, DG Climate Action hosted a meeting of the Working Group (WG) 5 under the Climate Change Committee. This WG 5 focuses on the "Implementation of the LULUCF Decision and policy development of the land use, land use change, and forestry sector." Ana Frelih-Larsen, Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute, participated in the meeting, presenting the study "Mainstreaming climate change in the rural development policy post 2013."   5. Mainstreaming of Climate Change into Rural Development Policy Post 2013 – Workshop

    On 17 June 2014, Ecologic Institute with partners introduced a draft of technical guidance for integrating new and innovative climate actions in rural development programs. Ana Frelih-Larsen, Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute, outlined the elements related to the LEADER instrument and joint actions. Michael MacLeod of Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) presented the technical fiches for climate mitigation and adaptation actions. Finally, Bernhard Osterburg of Thünen-Institut presented the potential combinations of measures under rural development programmes (RDPs). All presentations are available for download.

  6. Climate Mitigation Requires Initiative – Strategic Development of the National Climate Initiative (NKI) – Conference

    On 5 June 2014, the one-day conference "Climate Mitigation Requires Initiative – Conference on the Strategic Development of the NKI" took place in Berlin under the scope of the project "Strategic Development of the National Climate Initiative (NKI)". 150 participants from policy, business, scientific institutions, and civil society discussed and exchanged their views on the main focal points for the further development of the NKI.   7. Economics of Green Germany – the case of the Energiewende – Summer School

    As a new element in the Ecologic Institute's long-standing cooperation with the Duke University in North Carolina, the Institute hosts a course on the German 'Energiewende'. For the second time, the Ecologic Institute organizes this course as part of the 2014 Summer in Berlin program jointly organized by Duke University and Rutgers.

  8. If Possible, Please Turn Around: Three Years of Energiewende in Germany – Panel Discussion

    On 7 June 2013, Stephan Sina, Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute, took part in a discussion in Berlin on the energy transition in Germany (Energiewende) organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. The other contributors were Herrmann-Otto Solms (FDP) and Georg Zachmann (Breughel Institut, Brussels). Steffen Hentrich (Liberal Institut) moderated the discussion. About 60 participants attended the event.

  9. Strategies and Options for Resource Policy in Germany – Parliamentary Breakfast

    On 6 June 2014, a parliamentary breakfast was held in Berlin on "Strategies and Options for Resource Policy in Germany". In order to allow for an exchange between policy, academia and business, the Resource Policy research project (PolRess) invited members of the German Parliament and resource policy experts to a debate. Dr. Martin Hirschnitz-Garbers acted as moderator of the event.

  10. ICAP Training Course on Emissions Trading in Chile

    In May 2014, the 10th ICAP Training Course on Emissions Trading brought together experts from emerging economies and developing countries to learn about emissions trading as a tool for climate protection and to discuss the options of implementing such systems in developing countries. The session in Santiago was the tenth of its kind and continues a series of past ICAP events held in other cities including Berlin, The Hague, Beijing, Madrid, Dublin, and Istanbul. It was attended by 29 mid-career professionals from eleven countries. Benjamin Görlach and Pedro Barata led the course.

  11. Transatlantic Climate and Energy Dialogue, Moving Forward – the ELEEP Network in Brussels, Rotterdam and the Hague

    Over 25 members of the ELEEP Network met in Brussels and The Netherlands from 14 until 18 May 2014. The members engaged in a variety of activities, with a specific focus on discussing the organizational and substantive evolution of the ELEEP Network. This face-to-face consideration of how to implement an action-oriented, policy-relevant network – that remains both professionally and personally rewarding – will inform an on-going discussion of ELEEP’s next steps with two coordinating organizations (Ecologic Institute and Atlantic Council), as well as the rest of the members in the ELEEP network, over the coming months.
